Kali Not karma.

Early in the morning
sometime in June
 received a call.

I was half asleep.
The caller spoke in a hurry.
Told me Raghu lies sedated.
He did not wake up in the morning.

"What? What" I cried
The line went dead.

I was astounded.
The previous night
the pieces of mangalasutra
were stringed together.
Ragu was part
of fun and frolic.

Mehendi ceremony
was performed
with splendour in Raji's house.

Raji the bride to be looked graceful
in her bridal costume,

Raghu is in a state of disarray.
He was forced into this alliance
by his mother who overwhelmed him
with  pathos. His father, known for his antics,
denied him the inheritance.

His marriage to Mekhala, a small time actress
was not accepted. The family discreetly concealed
it.

Raji's family unknowingly got trapped.

Late in the night, Mekhala called,
threatened to kill him if he proceeded.

Raghu sought the easy way out. An overdose of
sleeping pills resolved the dilemma.

He lies unconscious.

The beautiful bride is agog with excitement.
Her prince would walk at any time,

It is not to be.
Poor Raji is brutally let down
Her feet loses ground. She faints.
"Raji", her mother wails.

A tragedy of moral idealism

The bridegroom's father screams. He blames Karma.

It is not Karma but Kali (evil).
I argue.

Kali ( Kali Yuga)
